Family Counseling

Is your child demonstrating challenging behavior in the home that poses difficulty with routines?  Are behaviors potentially unsafe, and have required medical and emergency clinical intervention?  Are other forms of therapy not addressing these concerns in an effective manner?  As a parent/caregiver, is it difficult to find solutions to see positive behavioral changes in the home?

Some situations that may benefit from in-home behavioral services include:

  • Challenging and disruptive behaviors in the home
  • Difficulty with routines and adherence to family rules
  • Utilization of emergency services (ex MCI) have been utilized
  • Other forms of therapy (ex. counseling) have not helped

How can in-home behavioral services help?

Utilizing an interactive family approach, IHBS encompasses a variety of caregiver supports and assistance to both reduce problematic behaviors the home, and to facilitate and strengthen more appropriate behavior among family members.  This may be reducing a child’s inappropriate behavior, and/or creating more appropriate and effective responses a parent can utilize during incidents of challenging behavior.

How is it accomplished?

A central goal of IHBS is to identify and reduce the incidence of behaviors that negatively affect a youth’s quality of life and his or her availability for learning. By working collaboratively with professionals in community and educational settings, IHBS can collect valuable data and promote the use of consistent treatment interventions. In so doing, IHBS assists youth in generalizing and applying new skills across environments. When an IHBS provider models how to track and analyze data, other providers on the team can sharpen their own skills for measuring and thinking about behavior.
